The Schenectady County Public Library will host a summer reading challenge with prizes like gift cards and a grand prize basket featuring "Made in Schenectady County" food products. Participants earn a badge for each book that they read and log. All earned badges will be entered into the end-of-summer grand prize drawings. The company is opening up its next location in Albany's Pine Hills Neighborhood at 1034 Madison Avenue, next to the Madison Theatre. High fire risk across New York due to dry weather ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has declared a high fire danger risk across all of New York. The state is enduring a dry spell which can produce an environment in which the chance of fires starting and spreading is greatly increased. The National Weather Service has issued warnings about the period of dry weather as well, explaining that the combination of low humidity and lack of rain often leaves grass and brush areas dry, and can result in the rapid spread of intense fires. Man punches woman, hits her with car and robs her at Apple Valley gas station, deputies say A dispute over a coat led a man to punch a woman and strike her with his car at an Apple Valley gas station Monday night, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.At the Apple Valley Gas Mart on Highway 18 about 11:30 p.m., a 55-year-old Apple Valley woman reported to a deputy that she had been assaulted by 58-year-old Apple Valley man Richard Edward Shaw "while they were arguing about a jacket," the Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
