Vic Davalillo, a two-time World Series champion who spent 16 seasons in the major leagues and won a Gold Glove in 1964, has died. The 1969 Sporting News Baseball Register also used 1936.Leones de Caracas in Venezuela’s winter league said it will wear a patch with Davalillo’s name and No. 2 on its jersey sleeves for the rest of the season. The ballpark in Cabimas was named after Davalillo in 1987 and the Venezuelan Winter League MVP award was named after him. Zach Wilson and the Jets’ offense showed some life. Now they’ve got to prove it wasn’t just a fluke

Well, that certainly came out of nowhere.Touchdowns, third down conversions and scoring in the red zone were all on display by a New York Jets offense that had struggled to do much of anything all season. And it was Zach Wilson who led the way in the Jets’ 30-6 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday, bouncing back from a benching and a tumultuous week by having perhaps the best game of his nearly three-year career.“I feel like that pressure that he’s been carrying just didn’t seem to be there,” said wide receiver Randall Cobb, who caught one of Wilson’s two TD passes. “And it was nice to see him just playing loose and free and having fun and going out there and slinging it around.”Wilson, who was benched for two games, was 27 of 35 for 301 yards while setting career highs with a 75% completion rate and a 117.9 passer rating.“He was awesome,” coach Robert Saleh said. “I felt like he was extremely decisive. He played fast. There were a lot of ‘oh crap’ moments whe...

A construction crime recently targeted a charitable cause when Habitat for Humanity’s MetroWest/Greater Worcester chapter said roughly $9,000 of tools were taken from one of its construction sites.  The Habitat for Humanity chapter in a statement on Monday said the theft happened at a construction site on Sunderland Road in Worcester on the night of Dec. 5. In this case, Habitat for Humanity said, the padlocks on two trailers were found cut and tossed on the ground. Among the items stolen were 10 cordless impact drivers, valued at $1,190; two nail guns, valued at $718; a hammer drill, valued at $399; and an impact wrench valued at $349. Habitat for Humanity said many of the tolls were essential and used every day at the affordable housing project underway at the Sunderland Road site. The tools, officials said, will need to be replaced for crews to continue building.“We hope everyone in the community will be on high alert to make sure these thieves don’t ste...

Chicago Bears coach Matt Eberflus met with reporters Monday at Halas Hall to review the 28-13 victory over the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field. Here are three things we learned as the Bears get ready to turn the page to Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.1. Matt Eberflus said he is ‘very active’ about making sure officials keep an eye on possible dangerous hits against quarterback Justin Fields.Eberflus said he saw hits on Fields in the Nov. 19 game against the Lions that crossed the line. In Sunday’s game, he said he wasn’t happy about linebacker Jack Campbell’s late hit on Fields when the quarterback slid following a 1-yard run on the first play of the game. Campbell slid his body over Fields’ head after Fields went down.“I’m always in their ear about that because protecting the quarterbacks in this league is big,” Eberflus said. “Those guys are the league, so it’s important that we do that and we contin...
